Visual Arts
NPHS VPA offers a spectacular diversity of visual arts courses. Most visual arts students will begin their studies in the half year 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional courses. In 2-dimensional courses students will develop in drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and design to create artwork suitable for inclusion in a portfolio, and 3-dimensional courses feature hands-on activities in green or industrial design, sculpture, ceramics, or building arts where media may include, but are not limited to, clay, wood, plaster, and paper maché. Visual arts students participate in several art shows each school year.
Students interested in applying directly into the intermediate and advanced year-long visual arts program courses will be expected to submit a digital portfolio of their artwork made in previous art classes and/or on their own. These courses allow the visual art student to further develop their passion in drawing and painting, 2- & 3-dimensional art honors and drawing honors, ceramics and pottery, portfolio development, and AP courses in art & design, art history and drawing. Students participating in these courses are eligible to attend special field trips, and often receive local, district, state and national art awards and art scholarships for colleges.
