Technical Theatre
NPHS VPA technical theatre students participate in all aspects of the production and presentation of numerous performances of all disciplines in the Performing Arts Center. The technical theatre courses introduce students to the fundamentals of technical theatre through practical experiences in stagecraft procedures including, scenery construction, costuming, make-up, lighting, sound and set design. Many opportunities are provided for experienced technical theatre students to expand their knowledge of technical theater and to participate in all technical aspects of theatrical events.
Technical theatre students develop standard conventions of designing and creating costumes, hair, and makeup, increased attention to technical knowledge of safety procedures and the safe operation of theatre equipment, tools, and raw materials. Students work creatively and collaboratively within the organizational structure of theatre production resulting artistic improvement.
Technical theatre students have the opportunity to utilize public performances to demonstrate learning how to select, organize, and mount formal and informal staged productions by means of exploring the leadership roles of director and stage manager. Directing courses focus on the director’s knowledge, application of staging, and concept on the overall production, the director’s responsibilities in relation to the entire production team, and techniques used to create an effective theatrical work.
