Orchestra

Students in orchestra courses will develop performance and interpretative skills expressive markings, individual and ensemble performance, and critical listening. Content will include technical skills, individual and ensemble techniques, music literacy, sight reading, and ear training. NPHS VPA features four orchestras, Prelude, Concert, Pops!, and Advanced. All orchestra courses enable students to develop technical skills on orchestral stringed instruments violin, viola, cello, and bass through the refinement and performance of high school orchestra literature. Prelude and Concert perform every semester. Incoming students with prior experience have the opportunity to audition to enroll in multiple orchestra ensemble courses, as placed by instructor.

Prelude and Concert Orchestras are the preparatory courses for Pops! and Advanced. Pops! Orchestra performs popular music styles such as jazz, swing, rock, and fiddle. Advanced Orchestra is the competitive ensemble that performs many off-campus events throughout Florida, competitions, and tours to educational, tourist destinations. Pops! and Advanced Orchestras are designed specifically for intermediate and advanced students to progress through during their sophomore through senior years. Students may be invited to participate in special afterschool coaching, rehearsals and performance ensembles that are featured in many additional assessments, performances, and events held on campus, and across the district, state, and nation!
