Dance
The NPHS VPA dance program provides all students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in a variety of dance techniques and to participate in at least one public performance per semester. Our program offers a variety of courses, with options appropriate to every level of dance student. Novice and beginning dancers with no prior experience may elect to participate in one (modern/jazz dance) or two (ballet and modern/jazz dance) courses per year.
All dancers in the double blocked ballet and modern/jazz dance courses perform at least three times per year and are eligible to attend additional dance trips to view professional performances. These students may also participate in annual American Ballet Theatre examinations and Florida Dance Performance Assessment events featuring workshops and audition opportunities for colleges, universities, scholarships, and professional companies.
Dance students with prior experience are assessed for placement into the intermediate and advanced double blocked dance courses, and many are invited to enroll in a third course (dance repertory), joining the Repertory Dance Ensemble. RDE company members learn traditional and contemporary repertoire, focus on solo and small group pieces, create and collaborate on student choreography, and participate in more than ten additional performances each year!
