Band
The music department philosophy is to give every student the opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of music, and to allow each student to develop the highest level of musicianship on their instrument. These skills are achieved through mastery of basic skills, the performance of etudes and exercises, and participation in ensembles and solo performances. NPHS VPA band offers many class ensembles to suit every student’s skill set and achievement goals, including Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Intermediate and Advanced Jazz. Prior experience is not required to participate in band classes, though all students are placed into the appropriate band class according to course rigor. Space is limited, early application and audition is strongly recommended for placement into intermediate and advanced band courses.
All band and jazz band students perform in public concerts three times per school year, once at the end of each semester and at a special “Haunt-cert” in late October. Band and jazz band students are strongly encouraged to participate in annual Florida Band Masters Association Music Performance Assessments in concert, jazz, solo and ensemble categories. All band students are strongly encouraged to participate in Marching Band and Bobcat Band afterschool ensembles.
