VPA Auditions February 22, 2025.

Placement Audition and Portfolio Review Overview

North Port High School’s Visual and Performing Arts department provides ALL students with the opportunity to experience arts education.

All students are encouraged to participate in VPA courses, regardless of prior experience or ability, and are encouraged to continue with their VPA courses to earn a VPA graduation endorsement.

The NPHS VPA Magnet programing offers progressive, highly specialized, intensive training for students who consider the arts a personal passion. These courses are for students who may be considering a career in the arts, who may wish to major or minor in the arts in college, or who choose to pursue their individual passion in the visual or performing arts.

VPA classes at NPHS are leveled progressively by rigor within multiple disciplines. Students taking VPA classes are scheduled by aligning the student’s achievement level to the class period’s rigor. As a result, there are often multiple or even all four grade levels (9-12) in beginning, intermediate, and advanced level VPA classes at NPHS. Typically, the introductory and novice level classes will have more underclassmen, and the intermediate and advanced level classes will have more upperclassmen.

It is normal to start any journey at the beginning, and the classes at NPHS VPA are no different. If a student is new to the VPA courses and has no experience, they may work directly with the guidance counselors to select from many entry level classes. However, many of the VPA courses are very popular and fill quickly. The best way to ensure that a student is scheduled into their first choice of VPA courses is to communicate with the VPA department by completing the audition application so that we can support your request with the guidance counselors.

Students who are experienced in their visual or performing arts discipline and are seeking placement directly into classes with increased rigor should complete the VPA application and placement audition process. Students are only placed into the intermediate and advanced level NPHS VPA courses by audition, portfolio review or in-class assessment.
